The ASF-Resist team in National Veterinary Institute Vom (NVRI), Nigeria hosted a research meeting with the visit of Dr Erika Chenais from National Veterinary Institute, Uppsala, Sweden; under the Action Plan “Developing innovative and sustainable approaches to prevent the spread of African swine fever in Africa. This activity was a scientific collaboration to build capacity of the team in the area of Participatory Epidemiology (PE). This will help the team efficiently respond to Objective two of the Project (developing a community-based participatory biosecurity approach to reduce ASF outbreaks for improved pig production) which is focused on the actors of the value chain of pig production.
During the visit, Dr Erika got to meet with the team in Nigeria and had a firsthand feel of the situation of pig farming in Nigeria. Activities during her visit included Farm visits, Focus group discussions with farmers, visit to the live pig market in Kafanchan (the largest in Nigeria) and a visit to the Jos abattoir.
